What is your relationship to independence?

Posted on Jul 4th, 2009 by Heartseed : Heartseed Heartseed
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 04, 2009:

I have been quite independent, mostly because my beliefs are out of sync with mainstream. Yes, I co-create my reality, no I don't just  meet everyone else's expectations of me.  My happiness is independent of your opinions of me, etc.

That said, I am not independent to a fault. I have learned to trust and ask for help when I need it, and treasure the positive responses. I am here to help others as well, if/when they allow / request.. You can get a lot more done when everyone shares a bit of the work.

Learning to trust and delegate was a key to growing into a leadership role. You need the independece to provide and hold a clear vision, but you also need the willingness to trust and  join together to really achieve great things.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 16, 2009:

Two material things: A job that meets the criteria I've already intentioned, and storage for my stuff in another city until I know where the job is, and get organized to do a move for the stuff.
Two less material things: health on all levels, a few more friends

Desire for a want can waver or be mitigated - desire for a need is inherent, unwavering.

What would you do if you lost everything you owned?

Posted on Jul 21st, 2009 by Heartseed : Heartseed Heartseed
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 21, 2009:

After putting everything in storage after my bankruptcy/foreclosure, and living at friend's homes for a bit, I have to say this is not much of an IF question for me.

And my answer is-- it's just stuff. And not critical to day to day life. If it's something you paid money for, it's not critical. Useful, maybe, but not critical.
Relationships/Community are critical.

Do you believe honesty is always best?

Posted on Jul 28th, 2009 by Heartseed : Heartseed Heartseed
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 28, 2009:

The question is asked as if there is only one flavor of honesty. And for some people for whom everything is black and white with no grey, I guess that may be true.

However,  I see it all as fairly subjective, that folks all experience reality from their own point of view.  Within that, I've seen people aggressively use "honesty" as a negative attack method. That use of honesty is -to me- obviously not the best.

Honesty is a part of personal integrity. Acting from integrity  requires an internal honesty.
Compassion,  working to see other people's points of view,  social situations may provide reasons to consider whether your "honest" opinion is really necessary. The guy joke about there being no right answer to "does my a** look bigger in this outfit?" is a case in point.  There is that adage - "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything".  What does your "honest" complaining do to make the world a better place? Most of the time, it increases the negativity around you and usually doesn't help.

At other times,  to avoid injustice, honesty is accepted, respected, expected.

I guess my point is --whether honesty is best, (as with many things,)  can depend on the intent of the wielder.
